Oh, hello Internet!
This is Duke. My girlfriend and I got him from a rescue on Thanksgiving of 2009. Here’s what we knew about him when we first got him:
- He’s between the ages of 8 and 10 years old. This is based on vets guessing his age. We don’t have any of his records earlier than 2008. He’s in good shape for his supposed age.
- He was raised by an old man living in rural Michigan, somewhere around the “thumb.” When the old man passed away, his sister didn’t know what to do with him so she gave him to a rescue. A woman adopted him for 11 months and then gave him back to the rescue, saying that “they just didn’t get along.” He was at a very loving Pekingese rescue for about 2 years before we adopted him.
- Duke prefers to hang out with dudes. This is probably a result of him being raised by the old man.
- Duke rode around in the old man’s truck a lot. Because of this, he loves car rides.
- Duke’s about as trained as a Pekingese can get. He lets us know when he wants to go out and he’s leash trained. Beyond that, you’re lucky if you can get a Pekingese to come when you call it, let alone do tricks.
- Duke’s only trick is to sit upright on his butt. He only does this to beg. This is acceptable because it is also freaking adorable. We also found out that he can high five.
So that’s Duke. Hope you like photos of this goofy white dog because that’s exactly what you’re going to get.
-Henry
UPDATE: Duke passed away on December 1, 2011. You can read more about it here.
